Louque selected National
Assistant Coach of the Year

OVERLAND PARK, KS – Johnson County Community College
women’s assistant soccer coach Wendy Louque made history at the annual National
Soccer Coaches Association of America convention last weekend in Kansas City,
Mo. She was selected the Junior College National Assistant Coach of the Year,
becoming the first the first community college coach and female to earn this
honor. She was one of four finalists for the award.

OVERLAND PARK, KS – The National Soccer Coaches
Association of American (NSCAA) recognizes teams that exhibit fair play,
sporting behavior and adherence to the Laws of the Game, as reflected by the
number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees
throughout the season. The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team
was one of 43 NCAA Division I and II, NAIA Division I and II and NJCAA programs
to be awarded a Silver Team Ethics Award by the Nationals Soccer Coaches
Association of America for the 2011 season. JCCC, led by head coach Jim Schwab
and assistant coaches Wendy Louque and Melissa Blount, were one of only five
community college teams recognized.

Highland Hires Held As Head Football Coach

Highland Community College officials have announced the
hiring of Ryan Held as the head football coach for the Scotties. Held, a native
of Overland Park, most recently served as the offensive coordinator at #3
nationally ranked Butler Community College. “Highland is committed to winning,”
said Held. “We will run a first class program where student-athletes can come
and have a jumping board, both academically and athletically, to find the
four-year environment that fits them.”

Aaron Flores Named Head Football Coach at
Coffeyville Community College

Coffeyville Community College
announced Monday the hiring of Aaron Flores as the new Head Football Coach.
Flores, who was the Offensive Coordinator this past season at Itawamba Community
College in Mississippi, served as offensive coordinator at Butler Community
College in El Dorado, Kan. for ten seasons. During Butler's 2003 National
Championship season, Flores was named Offensive Coordinator of the Year by
American Football Monthly Magazine.
Prior to Butler, Flores was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at
Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He started his coaching career at Missouri
Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo.
After graduating from Olathe South High School, Flores played quarterback for
Butler in 1990-91. He earned the Bachelor of Science degree in social sciences
from Emporia State University. He is married to the former Kristen Cataldi, and
they have one daughter, Ryann.

Volleyball Team
Brings Home the Program’s First Ever National Championship

Having finished as the national
runner-up in 2005 and 2009, the Cowley College volleyball team left no doubt as
to who the best team in the nation was in 2011 as they defeated Oakland (MI)
Community College 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 in the title match of the NJCAA
Division II National Volleyball Tournament played Saturday in Toledo, OH.
Cowley, which was ranked No. 1 throughout the majority of the season, finishes
the year with a 22-match win streak and a record of 38-2. Oakland ends the year
with a record of 41-4.
For Lady Tiger head coach Jenifer Bahner it has been a whirlwind season.
“It has all been so surreal, I am still trying to soak it all in,” Bahner said.
“Winning the national championship was such an exciting moment for the girls.”For
the second time in the tournament Cowley had to rally after dropping the first
set.
“We knew Oakland was a great team but we never stopped fighting and competing,”
Bahner said. “We had so many girls contribute in so many different ways”
Sophomore setter Molley Scanlon was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player
as she consistently put her teammates in position to be successful.

Kansas Community College Wins National
Soccer Championship

Kan.) - The Cloud County Community College men’s soccer team won the
NJCAA National Championship on Sunday, Nov. 20, with a 4-1 victory over Monroe
College, New York.
Cloud struck first as German "Viola" Solano scored three minutes into the 1st
half. Goal two came from Francis Villalta with 44 seconds left in the 1st half.
Monroe scored their first and only goal with under 15 minutes left to play. CCCC
answer right back with a goal by Adam Halliday. Solano added the fourth goal for
the T-Birds with under three minutes to play to close out the 4-1 win.
German Solano was selected as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Luke
Huggett and Neil O'Sullivan were also named to the All Tournament Team. CCCC
soccer coach Steve Ralos was named the NJCAA Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
On their way through the National Tournament, Cloud County defeated #6 Lincoln
College (IL) 4-0 on Thursday. On Friday, the Thunderbirds handed #2 Tyler Junior
College (TX) a 3-1 loss after two overtimes in penalty kicks. Tyler was the
defending back-to-back national champions.
Cloud County ends their season
23-1-3.
The 2011 NJCAA Men's Soccer National Championship was held at Reach 11 Sports
Complex in Phoenix, Arizona, and was hosted by Paradise Valley Community
College.
Garden City Takes 2nd at
NJCAA Cross Country Championships

The Garden City
Community College men's cross country team capped off a very successful season
with a second place finish at the NJCAA National Championship Meet in Hobbs, New
Mexico on Saturday. The Busters finished with 113 points which was a distant
second to National Champion Paradise Valley Community College who finished with
54 points.
Amos Bowen once again led the men's team as he has most of the year. He finished
as the fifth place individual in the meet, running a time of 26 minutes and 47
seconds for the eight kilometer race. Michael Wolf (20th), Chris Zirkle (24th),
Nick Baca (31st), and Leandro Santillan (40th) rounded out the team scoring for
Garden City. Carlos Ahkothe (41st) and Chris Ramsgard (50th) were the other two
runners for the Busters as they all finished in the top 50 of a race that had
288 competitors. Rounding out the top five after Garden City were Central
Arizona Community College, North Iowa Area Community College, and fellow Region
VI competitor Johnson County Community College. Region VI was represented very
well individually as they had three of the top five finishers.
In the women's race, GCCC's only runner Kelsey Geshwentner placed 35th out of
268 runners at the national meet. Geshwenter ran the five kilometer race in 20
minutes and 42 seconds. In the team race on the women's side Iowa Central
Community College won with Butler Community College being the top Region VI team
in 11th place.
