Sophomore guard Melissa Nelson powered the
nationally ranked Johnson County womenıs basketball team
to a pair of conference victories last week, helping
JCCC improve to a school 9-0 start to the season.
Nelson led JCCC with 25 points in a 97-64 home win over
Allen County. She also had seven rebounds and four
assists. Nelson again led JCCC in a 57-53 road win at
nationally ranked Independence. The Holton, Kan.,
native had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.
For the week, Nelson shot 50 percent from the field, and
80 percent at the line. Through nine games, Nelson
leads JCCC in scoring (14.0) and is second in rebounding
(6.2).

Western Division Player Of The Week
Seward County Community
College
Rachel Barnes
5'8"
Sophomore
Forward
Windsor, CT
Barnes finished another 2-0 week for the Lady
Saints averaging a double-double with 16 points and 10
rebounds per game. The sophomore started her week with
a 22 point 12 rebound performance against #11 Hutchinson
and backed that up with a 10 point, 8 rebound, 7 assist,
and 7 steal stat-sheet filler against defending
conference champion Barton County. Barnes has led
Seward County to a 10-0 start on the season.
