Kate James hit three home runs and a double in a doubleheader sweep of second-place Garden City on Wednesday as the Grizzlies won 8-2 and 18-3. James, a freshman from Maize, was 5-7 at the plate with four runs scored and five RBI.

Freshman Makenzi Shackley hit .519 in an eight-game week that saw Hutchinson go 6-2. Shackley was 14 of 27 with eight runs and 14 RBIs. She drove in at least one run in six of eight games. Shackley also had a double, triple and home run during the week. Her triple against Brown Mackie started a four-run comeback for a win in that game. She had a career-high four hits and four RBIs vs. Brown Mackie.

Maggie Ham threw five shutout innings of one-hit softball in an 8-2 win over Garden City on the road on Wednesday, striking out 10 Broncbuster batters. She is now 10-1 on the season.

Jessica Seay ran her season record to 14-0 with two complete game victories on the week. In 14 innings she gave up 10 hits with 1 walk and 1 earned run. She also recorded 10 strikeouts in the 14 innings. She gave up four hits and struck out eight in a win over Cloud County and then scattered six hits in a 6-1 victory over No. 19-ranked Johnson County.
