2016 KJCCC Football Players of the Week, Week 5
Marquis Terry, Highland sophomore, rushed the ball 26 times for 127 yards and 2 TD's. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry and his longest run of the day was 37 yards. Marquis helped lead the Scottie Offense to a total of 268 yards on the ground to defeat the #13 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons.
Coffeyville linebacker Vernon Dasher, sophomore, was a force against #20 Iowa Western. He had 7 ½ total tackles, 3 of which accounted for a total of 12 yards lost. At a key moment early in the second quarter of the game, Dasher forced a fumble he recovered and advanced for an 11 yard touchdown. His touchdown extended the Red Raven lead in the game to 28-3 and helped take the wind out of the Iowa Western sails.
Adrian Cross' three punt returns in the second half sparked the Hutchinson Blue Dragons from 20 points down entering the fourth quarter to take a fourth-quarter lead, only to fall 26-21 at Highland. Cross, a freshman, had punt returns of 39 yards to the Scotty 5 and 18 yards to the Hutch 40 that directly led to Blue Dragon fourth-quarter touchdowns. Cross averaged 26 yards per return on three punts against the Scotties. Cross also had three tackles and two passes broken up for the Hutch defense.
