KJCCC Baseball East Division Players of the Week - Week 9
COLBY, Kan. – Dominant four-game sweeps of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opponents has led to KJCCC Baseball East Division Baseball Player of the Week honors for Johnson County Community College catcher Boston Bruce and Kansas City Kansas Community College pitcher Donovan Johnson.
Boston Bruce – Johnson County (KJCCC Baseball East Division Player of the Week)
Boston Bruce hit .833 (10-for-12) and slugged 1.917 to lead a Cavaliers offense that outscored Neosho County 69- 3 in a four-game sweep in conference play last week. The sophomore catcher had five singles, a double, and four home runs, with one home run being recorded in each of the four games. Bruce scored 10 runs and drove in 10 throughout the series, and is now hitting .434 with eight doubles, three triples, and nine homers. In KJCCC East Division play, Bruce ranks fourth in batting average, second in on-base percentage (.552), fifth in hits (46), and sixth in slugging (.821).
Donovan Johnson – KCKCC (KJCCC Baseball East Division Pitcher of the Week)
Donovan Johnson continued his dominance on the mound for the Blue Devils last week, throwing a complete game against Labette in an 8-1 win. Johnson allowed just one run off three hits in his seven innings of work, striking out nine Cardinal batters throughout the series-opening win. The one run that Johnson allowed was a Cardinal solo homer in the fifth inning, as the redshirt sophomore now has the fourth-best ERA in the KJCCC East Division this season (2.84).
