KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week - Week 3
COLBY, Kan. – Recording a four home run week while leading Garden City to a road series win, Broncbuster Karson Evans has been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division Player of the Week and is joined by Pitcher of the Week Brian Justice of Barton.
Karson Evans – Garden City (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)
Evans helped Garden City earn a series win on the road at Ranger College while hitting a team-best four home runs and driving in 10 across the series. Recording at least one hit in each of the first three games of the series, the freshman had a 1.818 slugging percentage and had six hits in 11 at-bats for a .545 batting average with eight runs scored. Defensively, Evans was perfect on 20 total chances by recording 20 putouts and throwing out one runner stealing, in addition to helping turn one double play.
Brian Justice – Barton (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)
Brian Justice was dominant in his lone start of the week, tossing six shutout innings in a 6-1 victory over Allen County. The freshman right-hander allowed just one hit, struck out eight, and did not issue a walk, improving to 2-0 on the year. The only blemish came on a two-out double in the fourth inning, with a two-out hit-by-pitch in the sixth accounting for the lone additional baserunner. Outside of those two moments, Justice was untouchable, retiring 16 of the 18 batters he faced and throwing 74 pitches in a commanding performance.
