KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week - Week 8
COLBY, Kan. – Leading their teams to four-game conference sweeps last week, Cloud County Community College shortstop Lucas Laukkanen and Seward County Community College pitcher Michael Lujan have each been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division Baseball Players of the Week.
Lucas Laukkanen – Cloud County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)
Cloud County sophomore shortstop Lucas Laukkanen hit .500 at the plate with a .600 on-base percentage across the team's four-game series sweep over Colby Community College in KJCCC play last week. Laukkanen collected eight hits with six extra-base hits, including three home runs, while driving in 15 runs in the series. In game two of the series, down to the T-Birds' final out, Laukkanen swatted his second home run of the game on an 0-1 pitch, putting the exclamation point on a memorable 12-11 walk-off win.
Michael Lujan – Seward County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)
Sophomore pitcher Michael Lujan helped the Saints to a four-game sweep of the Pratt Beavers last week with a strong game one start. Lujan earned the win in game one as he threw 5.0 shutout innings in Seward's 4-0 win while allowing just two hits and striking out five to earn his third victory of the year.
