Latest NJCAA D1 Baseball Rankings Feature Three KJCCC Teams Ranked In Top 12
NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Week 5 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Combining for a record of 10-1 last week with a pair of four-game series sweeps over conference opponents, three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference teams are ranked in the top 12 of the week five NJCAA Division 1 Baseball top 25 poll.
The latest poll marks the second-straight week that the conference has at least three teams ranked in the top 12 of the polls, while remaining as the only NJCAA Region in NJCAA Division 1 baseball to have three top 12 teams this week.
Extending their winning streak to 14 straight games and remaining unbeaten in conference with a spotless 12-0 mark in KJCCC East Division play, Johnson County remains the number one-ranked team after receiving all 10 first-place votes and a perfect total of 200 points in the poll with a 30-2 overall record. The Cavaliers took a four-game series over Labette Community College last week, winning three games by run-rule over the Cardinals while outscoring conference opponents 171-39 in 12 conference games. After dropping in the week four poll, Cloud County moved back up two spots to number four after sweeping a four-game series over Colby to improve to 26-2 overall to maintain their spot in the top two of the KJCCC West Division standings. Hutchinson, meanwhile, fell one spot from 10th down to number 11 after dropping a 21-20 decision to Cowley in a mid-week non-conference matchup before sweeping a road doubleheader over Rose State College one day later to improve to 25-4 overall with all three losses coming by a single run.
Coffeyville will begin this week’s action across the conference with a Monday home doubleheader before seven different conference schools in action across seven games of non-conference play on Tuesday. KJCCC East Division and West Division play will resume on Thursday, including a matchup between two of the top three teams in the East Division standing when Johnson County hosts Neosho County for a doubleheader in Overland Park. In West Division action, Hutchinson will return to conference play with a big series against Butler Community College as the two teams are a combined 18-2 in conference games this season. In total, 18 games will take place on Thursday and again on Saturday as eight conference series, along with a non-conference series between Pratt and Allen will take place over the two days.
