In his first career start, true freshman Peyton Huslig, Garden City, played mistake-free football. Huslig connected on 21 of 30 passes for 311 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also averaged 50 yards per punt.
Marquis Blair couldn't have had a bigger impact on the game, forcing two key turnovers. With Dodge City down 23-14 in the first half, sophomore Blair intercepted Indy quarterback Jonathan Banks at the Independence 30 yard line and put the Conqs in scoring position to punch one right before halftime and make the deficit only two. With just over five minutes remaining in the game and Dodge City trailing 32-31, Blair again came up with the big play, forcing a fumble which DC3 would recover and lead to the game-winning touchdown.
Rodney Murphy, Dodge City freshman, sparked a sputtering Conquistador team, returning a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown after Dodge City had gone down 23-7. The 85-yard return sparked a 24-0 run for the Conquistadors and gave DC3 momentum right before halftime.
