KJCCC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - WEEK 1
Players from Coffeyville and Independence were part of big wins for both teams and earned Jayhawk Confernce Football Players of the Week for Week No. 1 of the 2021 season.
R.J. Walker of Independence was the league's Offensive Player of the Week. Coffeyville defensive back Brenyen Scott and punter George Eberle earned KJCCC Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: R.J. Walker, Independence
Independence quarterback R.J. Walker posted to 271 total yards and accounted for four touchdowns as the No. 10 Pirates rolled by No. 15 Butler 50-28 on the road to open the 2021 season. Walker was 10 of 20 passing for 226 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brenyen Scott, Coffeyville
Red Raven freshman defensive back Brenyen Scott had two big interceptions to help the Coffeyville Red Ravens defeat the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons 17-10. Scott's second-quarter midfield interception gave the Ravens excellent field position that led to a field goal to cut the Blue Dragon lead to 7-3. Scott's second interception of the game came as Hutchinson was driving late in the fourth quarter for a potential tying score. Scott intercepted the ball at the Raven goal line which snuffed out the scoring threat and enabled the Ravens to hold onto the victory.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: George Eberly, Coffeyville
Red Raven sophomore punter George Eberle's eight punts against the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson racked up 376 yards for an average of an outstanding 47 yards per punt. In a tight 17-10 Raven victory, Eberle's booming punts - including punts 82 of 75 yards - played a crucial role in a field position advantage for Coffeyville. Eberle was able to pin the Blue Dragons on their end of the field with a total of 3 punts inside the 20-yard line.
