KJCCC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - WEEK 8
Players from Independence and Butler garnered Week 8 KJCCC Football Player of the Week honors this week.
Independence quarterback Gregg Jones and return specialist Reggie Akles earned Offensive and Special Teams honors, respectively. Butler linebacker Norman Massey was named Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in a nationally ranked game against Iowa Central in El Dorado.
GREGG JONES, Independence - Offensive Player of the Week
Independence quarterback Gregg Jones combined for five total touchdowns - 4 passing, 1 rushing - to lead the Pirates to a 42-22 Jayhawk Conference victory over Highland. Jones completed 13 of 20 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns and rushed five times for 43 yards and a rushing touchdown.

NORMAN MASSEY, Butler - Defensive Player of the Week
Norman Massey, sophomore linebacker from Wichita, made a big impact play in the third quarter Saturday night with a pick six against the No. 10-ranked Tritons as Butler defeated Iowa Central 41-24. Massey picked off Triton quarterback Omarion Bartlet and took it to the house 85-yards for a touchdown. Massey's interception return is the seventh-longest interception return for a touchdown in program history. Massey also totaled four tackles on the night in the Grizzlies victory.

REGGIE AKLES, Independence - Special Teams Player of the Week
Independence sophomore Reggie Akles had his second kickoff return for a touchdown this season with a 95-yard kickoff return in the Pirates' 42-22 victory over Highland on Saturday. Akles averaged 47.33 yards per return on three returns.
