Defending National Champions Hutchinson Picked To Win KJCCC Football Title
COLBY, Kan. - Defending National Champion Hutchinson Community College has been picked to win their fifth-straight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference football title following a vote of league coaches as part of the 2025 KJCCC Football Preseason Order of Finish.
The Blue Dragons shared the KJCCC regular season title last year with Butler and Coffeyville after posting a 5-1 mark in conference play as part of an 11-1 overall campaign that led to their second National Title under sixth-year head coach Drew Dallas. The Blue Dragons received 42 points along with six of the seven first-place votes in this year’s poll.
Following Hutchinson and picked to finish second was Garden City after receiving 36 points and the lone remaining first-place vote as the Broncbusters once again edged out Butler who was picked third with 31 total points. GCCC will look to get back to their winning ways under second-year head coach Kiyoshi Harris with the last winning season for the Broncbusters coming in 2021 when GCCC fell in the KJCCC title game to Hutchinson before winning the Scooter’s Coffee Bowl over Navarro. Butler, meanwhile, will look to build off last year’s co-conference crown (26th conference title in program history) under first-year head coach Kyle Woodall after seeing former head coach Bryce Vignery resign in March to pursue other career opportunities.
A 9-3 record for Coffeyville last year and share of the KJCCC regular season title has the Red Ravens looking to have another strong year despite being picked fourth in the preseason poll with 29 points while Dodge City was picked fifth with 21 total points. The Conquistadors went 6-4 last year under first-year head coach Ryan Lusby despite allowing the third-fewest yards per game in the KJCCC (297.3).
The rest of the preseason poll saw Independence Community College picked sixth with 17 total points while Highland Community College was picked seventh with 13 points as Head Coach Tom Minnick returns to the KJCCC to take over a Scottie program that went 5-6 in 2024 while allowing the 12th fewest points per game defensively (19.3).
Independence and Dodge City will officially kick off the 2025 KJCCC football season for all seven schools as the Pirates will host Trinity Valley at 11 AM on Saturday, August 23rd while the Conquistadors make the trek to Tyler Junior College for a 7 PM kickoff at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. One week later sees both Highland and Butler open their respective seasons with the Scotties hosting perennial power Snow College at 4 PM while Grizzlies head to Northeast Oklahoma A&M, and Independence gets a second game under their belt with a road trip to Ellsworth (IA). The final three KJCCC teams will open their respective seasons on Saturday, September 6th as Coffeyville will host Cisco College, Hutchinson will head to Roswell, New Mexico to take on New Mexico Military College, and Garden City plays at Navarro College. Also playing on September 6th is Independence as the Pirates will play a third game in the opening three weeks of the season by traveling to Miami, OK to take on NEO A&M.
