2025 KJCCC Football Players of the Week - Week 5
COLBY, Kan. – A trio of first-time honorees have earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Football Player of the Week honors as Dodge City Community College quarterback Edwin Merriweather III, along with Coffeyville Community College players Robert Deal and Christian Burrus have all picked up week 5 awards.
Edwin Merriweather III (Dodge City) – KJCCC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Dodge City picked up its first win of the season, beating Highland 35-6, and used the passing attack to slice and dice the Scotties' defense. Edwin Merriweather III was a big part of the Conquistadors' offensive success as he went 11-for-15 through the air for 229 yards with two touchdowns. As a team, Dodge City passed for 383 yards and scored 21 of their 35 points in the fourth quarter.
Robert Deal (Coffeyville) – KJCCC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Red Raven defensive back Robert Deal had an outstanding performance in helping Coffeyville defeat the previously unbeaten and ninth-ranked Butler 31-28 in the 100th all-time meeting between the teams. Deal had six solo tackles in the game, along with a second-quarter interception that helped stymie the Grizzlies of Butler, which allowed Coffeyville to build a 31-7 lead before hanging on for the three-point victory.
Christian Burrus (Coffeyville) – KJCCC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Red Raven punter Christian Burrus helped Coffeyville win the field position game during the 31-28 defeat of number nine Butler. Burrus had 5 punts in the contest for 178 yards (35-yard average) with a long of 42 and two big punts that were downed inside the 20-yard line.
