COLBY, Kan. – Leading their respective teams to wins over top-10 opponents last week, Butler Community College football players Markellus Bass and Hunter Rioux, along with Hutchinson’s David Jester, have all earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Football Player of the Week honors for week nine.   

Markellus Bass (Butler) – KJCCC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Number 13-ranked Butler defeated number six-ranked Garden City on the road in dramatic fashion on Saturday, winning 26-23 in double overtime. The win for the Grizzlies marked Butler's first win at Broncbuster Stadium since 2014, having lost five straight. Running back Markellus Bass put up an impressive effort, recording 24 carries for 144 yards, averaging six yards per carry, and scoring one rushing touchdown. Bass also had one catch for five yards.

David Jester (Hutchinson) – KJCCC Football Defensive Player of the Week
David Jester, a sophomore safety, led the top-ranked Blue Dragon defense in a 31-0 shutout of number 10 Coffeyville on Saturday night at Gowans Stadium. Jester was Hutchinson's leading tackler with five tackles and recorded his second interception of the season on Coffeyville's opening drive of the second half.

Hunter Rioux (Butler) – KJCCC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Number 13-ranked Butler defeated number six-ranked Garden City on the road in dramatic fashion on Saturday, winning in double overtime 26-23. The win for the Grizzlies marked Butler's first win at Broncbuster Stadium since 2014, having lost five straight. Redshirt-freshman kicker Hunter Rioux played a crucial role in the win for the Grizzlies by drilling two clutch field goals in overtime, which included the eventual game-winner from 36 yards out. The win allows the Grizzlies to improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the KJCCC this season.
