Busy Week Across KJCCC Football Scene Results In Changes In Latest NJCAA Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Football Week 5 Rankings
CHARLOTTE, NC – A shakeup within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference football standings has led to changes within the latest NJCAA Division 1 Football top 15 poll, as three KJCCC teams are ranked and a fourth is receiving votes as part of the week 5 rankings.
The changes come as both games that took place last Saturday between conference foes came down to the final plays of the game, while top-ranked Hutchinson won a road battle over a top-10 opponent. All seven conference schools were in action on Saturday as the first four weeks of the season have left just six NJCAA Division 1 Football teams unbeaten. The KJCCC is responsible for two of the unbeaten teams, which includes number 1 Hutchinson after the Blue Dragons improved to 3-0 with a 35-17 win at number nine Iowa Central. Joining Hutchinson as one of the remaining unbeatens is 3-0 Butler after the Grizzlies overcame a 20-7 second-quarter deficit to come back and force overtime and eventually win 30-37 over Independence at home. With the win, Butler moves up four spots up to number nine after seeing four teams ranked ahead of them all fall in the poll following losses last week. The biggest shakeup of the week in the poll came in Garden City as the Broncbusters were unable to protect a late 24-23 lead with just over a minute to play, seeing Coffeyville march down the field to connect on a walk-off 19-yard field goal to earn their first win of the season. Following the result between Garden City and Coffeyville, the Broncbusters fell four spots in the latest poll, down to eighth, while Coffeyville is now receiving votes.
A much slower week is set to take place this Saturday as two games taking place between conference schools and one KJCCC/ICCAC clash is on the schedule to close out the week of September. Kicking off the day will be Garden City who will look to bounce back with a long trek to Iowa Falls, Iowa to take on a 2-2 Ellsworth in an 11 AM kickoff at Cadet Field. Dodge City will be at home for a second-straight week, playing host to Highland in a 1 PM kickoff in a battle of teams both looking for their first wins of the year while the day will be capped off by a long-standing rivalry between number nine Butler and Coffeyville. Kickoff from Veterans Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville is set for 7 PM.
