Garden City Men's Golf Wins Central District Championship, Three KJCCC Schools Qualify For National Championships
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a wire-to-wire win and NJCAA Central District Tournament title for the Garden City Community College men’s golf team, three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools have earned their spot at the 2025 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf Championships.
The 2025 NJCAA Central District Men’s Golf Championships, which took place April 28-29 at Tiffany Greens Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri, saw Garden City, Hutchinson, and Dodge City all finish in the top four in the team scoring to earn an automatic bid to next month’s NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf Championships in Newton, Kansas.
The Broncbusters opened the 54-hole tournament with an opening round of two-over, 290 to grab a commanding 15-stroke lead over the remaining eight teams in the field and never looked back as GCCC followed up their opening round score with scores of 296 and 300 to hold off Indian Hills Community College who shot 305-290-298 to finish with a three-round total of 893 and finish seven strokes back of Garden City. Hutchinson took third as the only other team to shoot under 900 in the team scoring with a three-round total of 898 (305-293-300) while Dodge City finished six strokes clear of fifth-place Barton Community College with scores of 318-299-299 for a total of 916 and earn their 35th-straight trip to the NJCAA Division1 Men’s Golf National Championships.
Individually, the KJCCC accounted for seven of the top 10 finishers with Garden City’s Ilan Dufrenoy and Oliver Crowley both finishing with a 54-hole score of two-over 218 to go to a two-hole playoff where Crowley prevailed to earn medalist honors. The rest of the top five was also from the KJCCC as Rhys Nicholas (Dodge City) took third with a total of 219, one shot ahead of both Corey Scullion and Charlie Box from Hutchinson as the Blue Dragon duo each shot a total of four over 220. Finishing tied for eighth place individually was Garden City’s Jack Dyer with a 54-hole score of 223 while Barton’s Kaleb Lambert finished tied for 10th with a total of 224.
Up next for the Broncbusters, Blue Dragons, and Conquistadors will be the NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf National Championship tournament, which is set for May 13-16, 2025 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas. Last season, Hutchinson was the highest-finishing KJCCC school at the 2024 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf National Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico in ninth place while Dodge City’s Thanaphon Suwannapratheep won an individual NJCAA National Championship with a four-round total of nine under 275.
