Hutchinson, Garden City Qualify For 2026 NJCAA Division 1 Men's Golf National Championship Meet
SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The Hutchinson Community College and Garden City Community College men’s golf teams have both qualified for the 2026 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf National Championships following a second and third-place team finish at the 2026 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf Central District Championship tournament at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri.
The 54-hole tournament took place April 27-28 and featured NJCAA Division 1 men’s golf teams from NJCAA Region 6 (Kansas), 11 (Iowa), 16 (Missouri), and 24 (Lower Illinois), with nine total teams participating over the two days. Winning the team title was Indian Hills Community College as the top-ranked Warriors fired three rounds of under-par golf on the 6,700-yard Par-72 course with rounds of 279 (-9), 284 (-4), and 278 (-10) to finish with a three-round total of 841 (-23). No other team in the district tournament was able to put together a team round under par, allowing IHCC to claim the team title by 28 strokes over district runner-up Hutchinson (869 total).
Following Hutchinson in the team scoring was Garden City as the Broncbusters put together rounds of 307(+19), 301 (+13), and 292 (+4) to finish with a three-round total of 900 and beat both Iowa Western and Dodge City for the final automatic qualifying berth into the National Tournament after the Reivers and Conquistadors finished with 54-hole totals of 907. Other teams competing in the tournament included John A Logan (911), Crowder (927), Barton (928), and Coffeyville (no team Score after withdrawing prior to round three).
Individually, Hutchinson’s Corey Scullion was the highest-finishing golfer from NJCAA Region 6 as the sophomore used an opening round 69, followed by a second-round 76, and final round 70 to finish the tournament at one-under with a total of 215. Scullion was one of just four golfers to finish the tournament under par, with Indian Hills Charlie Preston earning medalist honors with a three-round total of 13-under, 203. Following Scullion was Blue Dragon Hugo Duquaine, who finished in a three-way tie for fifth with a total of 218, while HCC’s Jack Northgraves and Matt Vearncombe, along with Garden City’s Ilan Dufrenoy all finished in a tie for eighth with totals of 219.
Up next for Hutchinson and Garden City is the 2026 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf National Championship, which is set to take place in the Sunflower State at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas. Both the Blue Dragons and Broncbusters are among 12 teams that have earned automatic berths into the National Championship tournament, while eight remaining at-large selections will be made on May 6th and will be based on the final NJCAA/Clippd poll, with the highest-ranked teams not already qualified earning at-large bids. Among those in contention for a potential at-large berth is Dodge City Community College, as the 20-team field will compete May 12-15 in a 72-hole tournament.
