Hutchinson Men's Golf Wins KJCCC Championship, All-KJCCC Golf Teams Announced
NEWTON, Kan. – For the seventh-straight year, the Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team has claimed the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas.
The five-team, 37 individual player tournament took place April 12-13 with the Blue Dragons placing five individual golfers inside the top six and finishing as the only team to shoot sub-300 rounds in all three rounds to capture their 14th KJCCC men’s golf title in program history, with all 14 championships coming under head coach Chris Young. HCC opened the tournament with the low team round of the tournament with a round of 282 to jump out to a 19-stroke lead before posting a second-round 296 to add to their lead and hold a commanding 21-stroke lead after day one’s action. In final round action, Hutchinson kept things going with a 297 to finish with a total of 875, 24 strokes clear of KJCCC runners-up Garden City who shot a 54-hole total of 899.
With five individual golfers inside the top six of the final standings, Blue Dragon Jack Northgraves earned individual medalist honors putting together two rounds of even-par 72 on the opening day before shooting a one-under 71 to finish as the lone golfer under par for the tournament. Northgraves was tied with teammate Joe Austin heading into the final day of play for third behind day-one leader and teammate Corey Scullion, along with second-place Ilan Dufrenoy of Garden City before making up a two-stroke deficit with Scullion finishing with a final-round 80 and Dufrenoy shooting a round of three-over 75. Following Northgraves was a tie between Austin and Dufrenoy with three round totals of two-over 218, while Scullion tied with teammate Hugo Duquaine of Hutchinson with totals of four-over 220 to earn First-Team All-KJCCC honors.
Earning second-team All-KJCCC honors were Grant Hatzenbuehler (Hutchinson), Lucas Kuiper (Dodge City), Drew Heinz (Dodge City), Theis Ottosen (Garden City), and Matt Verancombe (Hutchinson) as the five each finished in the top 10 of the tournament. Players who finished outside the top 10 but inside the top 15 to earn Honorable Mention All-KJCCC honors included Aidan Robinson (Dodge City), Miguel Silveira (Garden City), Oliver Corwley (Garden City), Hudson Sauder (Hutchinson), Jack Bines (Garden City), Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini (Barton), and Wintakorn Suwanmuang (Barton).
All five NJCAA Division 1 men’s golf programs from the KJCCC (Hutchinson, Garden City, Dodge City, Barton, and Coffeyville) will tee it up once again next Monday Monday, April 27 to begin the 2026 NJCAA Central District Championship which will be held at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by Crowder College as the five KJCCC schools will be joined by Indian Hills and Iowa Western from NJCAA Region 11, Crowder College from NJCAA Region 16, and John A. Logan College from NJCAA Region 24.
