KJCCC Men's Tennis Teams Finish In Top Seven Of Team Standings, 3 Individuals Win National Championships

FLORENCE, S.C. – Three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference men’s tennis players claimed individual National Titles as the 2025 season wrapped up with Barton Community College claiming National Runners-Up status as a team with three KJCCC schools finished in the top five of the team standings following the five-day tournament held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence, SC.
Included in the list of individual National Champions is Barton’s Victor Alves (number two singles) along with Pratt Community College’s Kenneth Rabinad Vila (number three singles) and Kenta Kawada (number four singles). Final team standings saw Barton finish with their best team finish in program history at the National Championship tournament by scoring 33 total points to trail only back-to-back National Champion Tyler Junior College who won the tournament with 42 points. Finishing one point back of Barton in fourth place was Pratt Community College while Cowley took fifth with 31 total points and Seward County was seventh with 27 points to have all four KJCCC tennis programs finish in the top seven of the 27 team field.
Entering the tournament as the number four seed in number two singles, Alves earned a 6-1, 6-1 round of 16 win over Tom Zimpel of Harford Community College before pulling off a 6-1, 7-6 win over Seward County’s Sebastian De Las Salas to advance to the semifinal round. Taking on top-seed Daniel Jankoski of Tyler Junior College in the semifinals, Alves overcame a 6-4 opening set defeat to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the National Championship match where he defeated six-seed Alberto Perez of Eastern Florida State by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to win Barton’s first individual National Title since 2003.
Number three singles saw Rabinad Vila enter as the number three seed and make quick work of his opening match against Tendai Chihowa (Prairie State College) with a 6-0, 6-0 win before picking up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Moritz Stroebel of Mississippi Gulf Coast. Facing Collin College’s Jose Castillo in the semifinals, Rabinad Vila again put together a straight-sets victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win to set up an All-KJCCC final against Seward County’s Abubakari Yakubu-Lea who earned two straight upset wins to advance to the National Championship meet with Rabinad Vila winning 7-5, 6-7, 6-1 to earn the National Title and First-Team All-America honors.
Kawada picked up the lone other National Title for the KJCCC as the number four singles draw started with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Coastal Alabama’s Alvaro Velasco before earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Holder (Jones College) to advance to the quarterfinals. Facing top-seeded Doni Gashi from Tyler Junior College, Kawada opened his match with a 6-3 opening set victory before being pushed to a third set in a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win to advance to the semifinals where he faced five seed Axel Le Ho of Wallace State. A quick 6-3, 6-1 win for Kawada put the freshman into the National Championship match against Collin College’s Enrique Doldan with Kawada winning 7-6, 7-5 to earn the individual crown.
Also earning NJCAA All-America accolades were Seward County’s Samuel Antwi at number one singles after entering the draw as the number eight seed and winning a pair of straight-set wins before pulling off a three-set win in the quarterfinals over top-seeded Minjae Kim of Collin College. Antwi went on to earn a three-set win over Barton’s Gabriel Gray in the semifinals before falling to third-seeded Matias Ruiz (Jones College) in the National Championship match by a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Number six singles also accounted for a Second-Team All-American from the KJCCC with Cowley’s Juwan Bae dropping a total of three games in his opening two matches to advance to the semifinals where he defeated Konstantin Kukaras (Eastern Florida State) 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. In the National Championship match against Luke Stula (Collin College), Bae dropped a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision after winning the opening set to finish as National Runner-Up.
The KJCCC also saw one doubles duo earn Second-Team All-America status after seeing Barton’s Mohammed Abuzed and Oliver Naude enter the number three doubles draw as the number four seed and earn three consecutive straight-sets victories on their way to the National Title match. After knocking off top-seeded Pedro De La Riva and David Hoyos (Cowley), the duo fell by a score of 6-0, 6-3 to second-seeded Daniel Maurico Marincas and Alex Morris from Tyler Junior College.
