2022 KJCCC Softball Division I Athletes of the Week, Wk. 4
Player: Madi Young (Butler)
Madi Young, sophomore shortstop from Derby, KS, was a nightmare for opposing pitchers this past week as she went 11-15, an average of .733, on the week at the plate. Not only was Young getting hits, but extra base hits as nine of her 11 hits went for extra bases she totaled six doubles, two triples and a homerun on the week. Young drove in 11 runs and scored eight times while adding in five stolen bases in her four games played.

Pitcher: Riley Wertz (Hutchinson)
Blue Dragon freshman pitcher Riley Wertz had a tremendous weekend out of the bullpen, picking up a pair of victories to move her season record to 3-0. For the week, Wertz threw 9 2-3 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts and only one walk with two hits allowed. Against Murray State, Wertz pitched the final 4 2-3 innings in Hutchinson's 6-4, 10-inning victory over the Aggies. She came into the game with in the sixth with the score tied and two runners in scoring position, getting out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts. Wertz finished with 11 strikeouts in 4 2-3 innings. Wertz threw four hitless shutout innings in a come-from-behind 6-5 win over North Central Texas. She had four strikeouts.
