Player: Melanie Castro (Dodge City)

Dodge City softball team put together a 3-0 weekend in the first home games of the season with a 19-3 win over Northwest Kansas Tech and then a doubleheader sweep of Northeastern. Freshman shortstop, Melanie Castro had a strong weekend going 8-9 at the plate in three games with eight runs scored, six RBI, a double, a triple, two walks, while she also recorded eight putouts and had three assists defensively. On the season Castro is hitting .405 with 15 hits, 15 runs scored, nine RBI, eight walks, and has a .500 on base percentage.

Pitcher: Jessica Morgan (Barton)

Jessica Morgan set the tone in game two to complete Barton's conference opening sweep over Garden City, sending the Broncbusters down in order in each of the first four innings including a 1-2-3 fourth frame freezing all three batters on the strikeout looking. Morgan struck out six and walking none in her five innings as Garden City's lone run came in the fifth on NJCAA 2nd team All-American's Nya Chacon's leadoff homerun for her 5th of the year. The Broncbusters second and final hit came one batter later but the Cougar defense threw out the extra base attempt as Morgan faced one above the minimum.
