2022 KJCCC Softball Division I Athletes of the Week, Wk. 8
Player: Madi Young (Butler)
Madi Young, sophomore short stop from Derby, KS, helped lead No. 6 Butler to two KJCCC sweeps this past week with her dominant presence inside the batter's box. Young went 7-8 on the week hitting an astonishing .778. Young hit five doubles on the week, a homerun driving home four runs and scored eight times herself. Young took four bases brining her season total to 22 stolen bags on the year. She finished perfect in the field totaling five assists and five putouts with a double play turned. Young is hitting .577 on the season and leads the team in batting average, hits, doubles, triples, homeruns, RBI's and stolen bases.

Pitcher: Riley Wertz (Hutchinson)
Blue Dragon freshman pitcher Riley Wertz carried the bullpen load to help close out four-straight Blue Dragon victories last week. She pitched 1 or 2-inning stints against Northwest Tech and the opener vs. Garden City before striking out a Blue Dragon single-game record 18 in a 6-4 10-inning victory over the Broncbusters in the second game. Wertz worked the final 7 innings with 18 strikeouts against only three walks, six hits and one unearned run. Wertz is now 6-0 with three saves and an ERA of 0.87.
