Four KJCCC Softball Players Named NFCA All-Americans
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following last week’s announcement of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NJCAA All-Region teams, four Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference softball players have been tabbed NFCA NJCAA All-Americans.
Three players representing the KJCCC have been named second-team NFCA NJCAA Division 1 All-Americans with Garden City’s Maysen Kurene-Iwikau and Maria Avendano Fori along with Hutchinson’s Kaibryn Kruger each earning the honor while Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Sidney Sullivan represents the KJCCC on the NFCA NJCAA Division 2 All-America teams with second-team All-America accolades.
Kurene-Iwikau hit .497 in in 50 games this past season, recording 79 hits with 23 doubles and 14 home runs to drive in 63 runs for the Broncbusters. Ranking fourth in the KJCCC in batting average and second in the conference in on-base percentage (.551), Kurene-Iwikau totaled 144 bases this past season with a slugging percentage of .906.
Avendano Fori was another key piece to the Garden City offensive lineup, hitting .500 for the season with 83 hits in 166 at-bats with a KJCCC-best 27 home runs and 48 extra-base hits. Driving in 101 runs to lead the KJCCC, Avendano For had an on-base percentage of .541 and a league-best 1.127 slugging percentage while helping lead GCCC to a third-place finish at the NJCAA Region 6 Plains District Tournament.
Kruger had a standout freshman season with a .451 batting average while helping lead Hutchinson to a share of the KJCCC Division 1 softball regular season title after driving in 50 runs and getting hit by a pitch 15 times this season. Recording an on-base percentage of .538, Kruger ranked 24th nationally with 41 stolen bases and 28th nationally with six triples.
Sullivan helped KCKCC reach the NJCAA Region 6 Division 2 Plains District Softball Tournament Championship game while batting .437 for the season with a league-leading 86 hits and 167 total bases for the Blue Devils. Nationally, Sullivan ranked 16th in NJCAA Division 2 with 167 total bases and 21st nationally with 23 doubles.
