Five KJCCC Softball Players Named NJCAA All-Americans

CHARLOTTE, NC – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its 2025 Softball All-America teams with five Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference softball players picking up All-America honors for their play throughout the season.
The five players represent four different KJCCC institutions, with Cowley College the lone KJCCC team to have multiple players named to the All-America teams. Also having at least one player earn All-America honors were Hutchinson Community College, Garden City Community College, and Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Bailey Backhaus (Hutchinson) NJCAA Division 1 Softball First Team All-American
Winner of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/New Balance NJCAA Division 1 Softball Golden Shoe Award, Bailey Backhaus set a new Blue Dragon single-season record for steals by swiping 57 of 58 bags this season which ranked fifth in NJCAA Division 1 softball. The sophomore had 17 multi-steal games, including four different games with three stolen bases, and hit .530 this past season with 98 total hits. Backhaus also set a new Hutchinson record for runs scored in a single season with 78 and had a 16-game hitting streak while reaching base in 33 consecutive games this season.
Maria Avendano Fori (Garden City) NJCAA Division 1 Softball First Team All-American
KJCCC Division 1 Softball Most Valuable Player, Avendano Fori was the KJCCC leader in both RBI (101) and home runs (27) while helping lead Garden City to a fourth-place finish in the KJCCC regular season standings and an appearance in the NJCAA Region 6 D1 Softball Tournament semifinals as one of the final three teams in the eight-team tournament. Finishing the season with a .500 batting average, Avendano Fori ranked second in the conference in runs scored (77), third in hits (83), fourth in on-base percentage (.541), and sixth in stolen bases (27). Avendano Fori was a two-time KJCCC D1 Softball Player of the Week this season and ranked second nationally in home runs and third in RBI.
Mikah Vann (Cowley) NJCAA Division 2 Softball Second Team All-American
KJCCC Division 2 Softball Pitcher of the Year, Mikah Vann led the KJCCC in both earned run average (2.14) and saves (3) to help the Tigers to a conference crown for the second time in the past three seasons. Vann finished the regular season ranking in the top five in the KJCCC in pitching appearances (34), wins (22), innings pitched (166.2), strikeouts (182), and batting average against (.180). Against conference foes, Vann had an ERA of 1.51 and went 11-1 with two saves in 78.2 innings pitched and 90 strikeouts with an average of 8.01 strikeouts per game. Nationally, Vann ranks seventh in saves, 11th in wins, and 13th in strikeouts.
Alyssa Droge (KCKCC) NJCAA Division 2 Softball Third Team All-American
Leading the KJCCC in pitching victories with 27 and ranking third across all NJCAA Division 2 pitchers this season, Alyssa Droge had a standout season for the Blue Devils with 26 complete games and an NJCAA leading 12 shutouts while helping KCKCC to the NJCAA Region 6 Plains District Tournament Championship game. Tossing a no-hitter against Labette in the opening game of the Plains District Tournament, Droge finished the year with a 2.48 earned run average and struck out 193 batters in 228.2 innings pitched. In total, Droge ranked in the top five of NJCAA Division 2 in seven different pitching categories.
Taverli Tennant (Cowley) NJCAA Division 2 Softball Third Team All-American
KJCCC Division 2 Softball Most Valuable Player and Newcomer of the Year, Taverli Tennant helped lead the second-best offense by batting average in the KJCCC and finished the regular season with the second-best batting average in the conference (.494) and a league-best 76 RBI. Ranking second in the conference in runs scored (66) and third in home runs (16), Tennant led the league with hits (81), doubles (24), triples (5), and total bases (163) while recording the ninth-most stolen bases in the league (18). Nationally, Tennant ranks 13th in total bases, 17th in RBI, and 21st in hits while also ranking in the top 20 in slugging percentage (.994).
