2026 D1 Softball All-KJCCC Teams
COLBY, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has announced the 2026 KJCCC Division 1 Softball All-KJCCC teams and winners of the major postseason honors. The awards, which were voted on by each of the league head coaches, include three individuals Garden City Community College, Butler Community College, and Dodge City Community College bringing home major accolades.
Major award winners from the 2026 regular season are Most Valuable Player Maysen Kurene-Iwikau, Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year Addison Chapman, and Coach of the Year Mike Viramontez.
Most Valuable Player: Maysen Kurene-Iwikau (Garden City)
The lone KJCCC D1 softball player to hit above .500 this season, Kurene-Iwikau hit .512 at the plate and led KJCCC D1 softball players in RBI (97), home runs (27), total bases (197), and runs scored (84). The sophomore was also hit by pitch 17 different times and had an on-base percentage of .580 and slugging percentage of 1.173. Nationally, Kurene-Iwikau leads NJCAA Division 1 players in RBI and total bases.
Freshman of the Year/Pitcher of the Year: Addison Chapman (Butler)
Recording the second-most pitching wins and third-most strikeouts in the KJCCC this season, Chapman was a dynamic force in the circle for the Grizzlies this year by going 13-3 in 26 appearances with 19 starts and tossing 98.1 innings. Averaging 8.54 strikeouts per seven innings, Chapman struck out 120 total batters, including 101 strikeouts against conference foes, and allowed just 21 earned runs in 80.0 innings pitched against KJCCC competition. In addition to Chapman’s pitching statistics, the McPherson, Kansas native hit .397 at the plate with 34 RBI and 16 extra-base hits with eight doubles, one triple, and seven home runs.
Coach of the Year: Mike Viramontez (Dodge City)
Exceeding preseason expectations where they were picked to finish fifth in the KJCCC, third-year head coach Mike Viramontez led the Conquistador softball team to a 42-16 record in the regular season to tie the program record for most wins in a season and a third-place finish in the KJCCC. Going 24-8 against conference opponents, Dodge City earned its best regular season finish in the KJCCC since 2005 and just three games out of first place. As a team, the Conquistadors had the second-best offensive batting average (.376) and pitching earned run average (3.40) in the KJCCC while ranking in the top three of the league in 15 other statistical categories.
