Johnson County Softball Wins KJCCC D2 Regular Season Title, District Tournament To Start Wednesday In Overland Park
COLBY, Kan. – For the fourth time in the past five seasons, the Johnson County Community College Conference softball team has won the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 softball regular season title, earning the top overall seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division 2 Softball Plains District Tournament.
The Cavaliers finished off the regular season this past Saturday with a home sweep of Independence Community College, finishing the regular season with a record of 33-11 while going 18-2 in KJCCC Division 2 play. JCCC’s lone losses of the conference season came on the road at Neosho County (4/23/26) and at home against Allen (4/25/26) while sweeping the remaining eight conference opponents. With the conference regular season title, Johnson County has now won 19 conference titles since their first conference crown in 1983, with the 2026 title being the sixth under current head coach Aubree Brattin-Volkens.
With the regular season title in hand, Johnson County will be the number one overall seed in the 2026 NJCAA Division 2 Softball Plains District Tournament, which is set to take place May 6-10 at the JCCC Softball Field in Overland Park, Kansas. Joining Johnson County in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament field is 2026 KJCCC Division 2 softball regular season runner-up Cowley College, three seed Kansas City Kansas Community College, four seed Allen Community College, five seed Labette Community College, six seed Cloud County Community College, seven seed Neosho County Community College, and eight seed Coffeyville Community College. Of the eight teams in this year’s tournament field, six of the eight were members of the tournament field in 2025 while both Cloud County and Coffeyville are making their first tournament appearances since 2019.
Action will get underway on Wednesday, May 6th at 11 AM when regular season champion and tournament host Johnson County takes on number eight seed Coffeyville, which will be followed at 1 PM when number four seed Allen faces off with Labette Community College. Game three of the first day of action will see number three seed Kansas City Kansas take on number six seed Cloud County at 3 PM, with the final game of the day featuring number two seed Cowley and number seven seed Neosho County facing off at 5 PM.
All games of the 2026 NJCAA Division 2 Softball Plains District Tournament will be streamed live on the KJCCC Sports Network, with live statistics also being made available for all games of the tournament.
