KJCCC Softball Trio Named NJCAA Softball All-Americans

CHARLOTTE, NC – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its 2026 Softball All-America teams with three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference softball players picking up All-America honors for their play throughout the season.
The three players come from two different KJCCC institutions, with Garden City Community College and Johnson County Community College both representing the conference on the All-America teams. Garden City had two players named to the NJCAA Division 1 Softball All-America teams while Johnson County had one selection to the NJCAA Division 2 Softball All-America teams.
Maysen Kurene-Iwikau (Garden City) NJCAA Division 1 Softball First Team All-American
The lone KJCCC D1 softball player to hit above .500 this season, Kurene-Iwikau hit .506 at the plate and led KJCCC D1 softball players in RBI (97), home runs (27), total bases (198), and runs scored (87). The sophomore was also hit by pitch 17 different times and had an on-base percentage of .580 and slugging percentage of 1.151. Nationally, Kurene-Iwikau led NJCAA Division 1 softball in slugging percentage while ranking second in RBI and total bases, while ranking third in home runs.
Maiarangi Waipara (Garden City) NJCAA Division 1 Softball Second Team All-American
One of Garden City’s top hitters at the plate, Waipara recorded a .456 batting average at the plate with 73 hits, 15 home runs, and 83 runs batted in. Ranking third in the KJCCC in on-base percentage (.543) while ranking fourth in slugging percentage (.831), batting average, and home runs, Waipara ranked ninth nationally in runs batted in and 26th in on-base percentage across all NJCAA Division 1 softball players.
Katie Kolarik (Johnson County) NJCAA Division 2 Softball Third Team All-American
Johnson County’s leader in home runs and one of five everyday starters for the Cavaliers to hit over .420 at the plate, Kolarik did a little bit of everything for JCCC after playing in 50 of 51 games and hitting .421 with a team-best 36 extra-base hits and 65 RBI. Tied for first in KJCCC Division 2 in home runs, Kolarik belted 16 round trippers and led the league in RBI while ranking third in total bases (130) and fifth in doubles (19). Nationally, Kolarik ranked 29th in total home runs, 40th in RBI, and 51st in total bases among all NJCAA Division 2 softball players.
