CHARLOTTE, NC – Entering the final week of March, two Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 softball teams find themselves ranked in the week five NJCAA Division 2 Softball Top 25 poll released on Monday, March 23rd.
With just over a month left in the regular season, both Johnson County and Kansas City Kansas Community College continue to represent the league in the latest rendition of the rankings as both the Cavaliers and Blue Devils continue to play a challenging non-conference schedule that has been rewarded by the ranking committee in the latest poll.
Following a 4-2 week for Johnson County, JCCC drops three spots from number 13 down to number 16 as the Cavaliers earned sweeps over KJCCC Division 1 foes Fort Hays Tech Northwest and Barton Community College before dropping a pair of home contests to Indian Hills Community College to close out the week. The Blue Devils, meanwhile, also took on Fort Hays Tech Northwest and Indian Hills in addition to playing a doubleheader against Moberly Area Community College, going a perfect 6-0 with four run-rule victories to climb back into the rankings at number 25 this week.
Non-conference play for teams will continue in the early part of the week, with 10 games taking place on Monday before a pair of games on Tuesday to set up conference clashes throughout the rest of the week. Wednesday will see KJCCC Division 1 teams take center stage with eight of 10 games on the schedule taking place between conference teams before seeing KJCCC Division 2 teams start their conference slate on Thursday when 12 games are scheduled to kick off league action for 10 of the 11 schools that play at the Division 2 level.
