Johnson County Earns Top Overall Seed In NJCAA D2 Women's Basketball National Tournament
CHARLOTTE, NC – Following an undefeated 2025-26 regular season and 2026 NJCAA Region 6 Division 2 Women’s Basketball Plains District Tournament title, the Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team has been named the top overall seed in the upcoming 2026 NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball National Tournament.
The tournament, which is scheduled to take place March 16-21 at the Tarlton Complex in Hickory, North Carolina, sees the Cavaliers top the 20-team national tournament field as one of two remaining undefeated teams in NJCAA Division 2 women’s basketball this season. JCCC is the defending National Champions, having won the 2025 NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball National Title after defeating Pima Community College 75-67 in last year’s title game. This year marks the first time since 2020-21 that the NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball National Tournament is taking place in Hickory, NC, when Johnson County fell to Lake Land Community College in the National Championship game by a score of 53-49.
As the top overall seed, JCCC will await the winner of number 16 Moraine Valley Community College and number 17 Cleveland Community College, who will play in the second game of the national tournament on Monday at 12 PM (EDT). JCCC will tip off their national tournament at 12 PM (EDT) on Tuesday, March 17th, with other teams on their half of the bracket including number four Pima Community College, number five Schoolcraft, number eight North Iowa Area, number nine Lincoln Land, number 12 Union (NY), number 13 Des Moines Area, and number 20 Monroe Community College. Johnson County’s potential quarterfinal round matchup would take place on Thursday, March 19th at 12 PM (EDT), with a semifinal round game taking place the following day at 4 PM (EDT). The 2026 NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball National Championship game is scheduled to take place at 6 PM (EDT) on Saturday, March 21st.
