Three KJCCC Women's Basketball Teams Ranked In Top Five Of Latest NJCAA Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball Week 10 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball Week 10 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – For the first time this season, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has three teams ranked in the top five of the latest NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Women’s Basketball Top 25 polls.
All three teams ranked in the top five of their respective polls are currently leading the way within the KJCCC standings while combining for a 59-2 overall record this season. In addition to the three teams ranked inside the top five, the KJCCC is represented by a fourth team ranked inside the top 20 and two more receiving votes heading into the final month of the regular season of play.
One of just two remaining unbeatens in the NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball Top 25 poll, Johnson County pushed their unbeaten streak to 26 games dating back to last season after taking care of business at home last week against Labette in their only game of the week. The Cavaliers followed up with a road win at Fort Scott Monday night after having the game that was originally scheduled for Saturday postponed and will be at Neosho County on Wednesday evening before returning home to take on Allen Community College in what is set to be a potential battle of the top two teams in the KJCCC D2 standings. Allen, meanwhile, has worked their way back into a group of six teams receiving votes this week following a 66-54 road win at Fort Scott last week to earn their third-straight victory and improve to 11-5 overall.
Following last week’s big move up the rankings into the top 10, Butler Community College is at it once again as the Grizzlies are up another four spots in this week’s rankings to be ranked number four while remaining in a tie for first in the KJCCC D1 standings. BCC picked up a 67-64 home win over Coffeyville last week and followed with a road 56-52 win at number 18 Hutchinson on Monday night to improve to 19-1 overall this season. Just ahead of Butler is number three ranked Dodge City, with the Conquistadors not seeing any change to their ranking after earning wins over Barton and Cowley since the release of last week’s poll. Hutchinson dropped two spots down to number two by virtue of their home loss to Butler after defeating Garden City on the road while Coffeyville is still receiving votes after splitting games with Butler and Independence.
Things are expected to get back to a more typical schedule this week following last week’s winter weather system forcing postponements as action will resume on Wednesday with a nine-game slate across the league. Both Dodge City and Allen will be idle on Wednesday night while three of the remaining four teams in the rankings will be at home before seeing Saturday shaping up to be highlighted by a matchup between Allen and Johnson County in Overland Park while Hutchinson will travel to Seward in the one of the bigger matchups on the D1 schedule to end the month of January.
