2016 KJCCC Women's Soccer Players of the Week, Week 9
In the past week, sophomore forward Jordan Downing became Blue Dragon women's soccer's single-season goals and points record holder and then became the fifth player in Jayhawk Conference history to register a 40-goal season.
Downing had a huge day against Pratt with six goals, three assists and 15 total points. With her final goal of the game, Downing broke the Blue Dragons' season-season record for goals scored and points (101), becoming the first HCC women's soccer player to amass 100 points in a season. Downing also reclaimed the NJCAA national goal scoring lead. Now with 23 assists, Downing tied Danielle Sheehy for second on HCC's single-season assist list.
Downing's six goals tied Melissa Hetherington for the second most in a game and her 15 points scored were second most scored by an individual. Downing's 16 shots taken were a single-game individual high for Hutch soccer.Her single goal against Garden City was an insurance goal, but it was her 40th of the season. Downing is tied for the NJCAA lead in goals (40) and assists (23) and is the nation's leader in total points (103).
Elena Garcia, Butler, made her first two starts of the season, posting a pair of shutouts. She had five saves in a win at Cowley and had on save against Neosho County on Sunday.
