Johnson County Women's Soccer Earns At-Large Bid To National Tournament, Named Top Overall Seed
CHARLOTTE, NC – The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team was one of four programs to receive an at-large berth into the 2025 NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer Championship field, receiving the number one overall seed in the upcoming tournament held at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas.
After playing to a scoreless draw at Iowa Lakes in the NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer North Plains District Tournament, the Cavaliers were forced to rely on one of the four at-large berths after the Lakers advanced on penalty kicks to earn one of 12 automatic bids to the National Tournament.
The lone remaining unbeaten team in NJCAA Division 2 women’s soccer, Johnson County will enter the National Tournament with a 20-0-1 overall record and is placed into Pool A as the top overall seed while being joined by number eight seed Jones College (Mississippi) and number 12 seed University of Arkansas Cossatot. Jones College was one of three schools from NJCAA Region 23 (Mississippi) to receive an at-large berth into the National Tournament, while Arkansas Cossatot won the NJCAA Central District Tournament by upsetting number nine-ranked St. Charles Community College in the district title match.
Johnson County’s National Tournament will officially get underway at 10 AM on Sunday, November 16th when the Cavaliers take on the Colts in the opening match of the tournament. As the top seed in Pool A, JCCC will then be given Monday off before returning to play on Tuesday, November 18th at 10 AM to take part in the final match of Pool A when the Cavaliers take on Jones College.
The winner of each of the four pools will advance to the NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer Semifinals, with the top remaining seed taking on the lowest remaining seed while the middle two remaining seeds play each other in the other semifinal match. Semifinal round matchups will take place on Thursday, November 20th, with the winners of each semifinal match facing off in the 2025 NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer National Championship Match on Saturday, November 22nd.
Johnson County has appeared in each of the last two NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer National Championship matches, falling by a 2-0 score last season to Northwest Mississippi Community College, while dropping a 3-0 decision to Jones College in the 2023 NJCAA D2 National Championship match.
