Barton sweeps KJCCC in limited week one action
The Barton Community College volleyball team swept KJCCC Division I Volleyball weekly honors for week one of the season. Mylena Testoni was the league's Player of the Week, Alyssa Herter was the Setter of the Week, and Hanna Miller was named the Defensive Player of the Week. The trio helped lead Barton to a season opening sweep of Southeast Community College and Hesston College.
Testoni helped set the tone for a very efficient Barton season debut, attacking at a .619 clip in the Cougars sweep. In match one of the Hesston triangular against Southeast, Testoni had six kills on a 50% attack while helping the defensive effort with twenty-two digs. Concluding the day playing two of the three sets against host Hesston, Testoni struck for seven kills on nine attacks while adding two blocks, a dig, and a service ace.
Sharing court time roles with Isabella Guedes in Barton's 6-2 offensive attack, Herter had a solid day helping the Barton offense to a .408 attack percentage in the six sets played. Posting a double-double eighteen assists and eleven digs in her collegiate debut against Southeast, Herter followed with another thirteen assists against host Hesston while adding two digs and three service aces.
Miller played four of the six sets this past Friday, recording ten digs in the season opener against Southeast Community College before posting an eleven dig effort against Hesston College. Although not eye-popping stats, the freshman helped anchor Barton's defense effort in holding its two opponents to a combined .005 attack percentage.
