Kansas City Kansas, Cowley Earn Share Of KJCCC D2 Volleyball Regular Season Title
COLBY, Kan. – Following wins on Wednesday night, the Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team and Cowley College volleyball team have each won a share of the 2025 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball regular season title.
Both teams finished KJCCC regular season play with an 8-1 overall record as the Blue Devils dropped a four-set match to Johnson County on October 15th before handing the Tigers their lone conference loss and first conference loss since September 30, 2022, by winning a 3-2, five-set thriller in Arkansas City. Entering the postseason, Kansas City Kansas carries a 22-5 overall record and is ranked number five in the latest NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Top 25 poll while Cowley is ranked number four in the NJCAA D2 Top 25 poll and holds a 28-4 overall record.
Finishing third and one game back of the Kansas City Kansas and Cowley is Johnson County as the Cavaliers won their final four matches of the season and went 7-2 in conference play to go along with a 22-7 overall record to finish one game ahead of fourth-place Neosho County. Following the Panthers in a tie for fifth were Highland Community College and Allen Community College after both went 5-4 in league play, with the Scotties holding the tiebreaker with a 3-1 road win at Allen on October 1st. The last team to make the NJCAA Plains District Tournament from the KJCCC was Labette with a 22-19 overall record after finishing KJCCC play with a 3-6 record, and two games clear of all remaining KJCCC teams.
Kansas City Kansas, Labette, Neosho County, and Highland will make up the 2025 NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District A Tournament bracket with the Blue Devils playing host to the Cardinals and the Panthers hosting Highland. Both matches are set for Wednesday, November 5th, with first serve in Kansas City and Chanute set for 6:30 PM.
In the NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District B Tournament, Cowley College earns the top overall seed and will host Allen at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 5th in Arkansas City, Kansas in a rematch of the final conference matchup for the two schools that took place this past Wednesday. Number three-seed from the KJCCC Johnson County will travel to the winner of NJCAA Region 2, which is set to be decided this Saturday as Northeast Oklahoma A&M will play the winner of Seminole State and Rose State for the right to host the number six nationally-ranked Cavaliers next week.
The highest remaining seeds in each of the two NJCAA D2 Volleyball Plains District Tournament brackets will earn the right to host championship matches, which are set for Sunday, November 9th on campus sites. Winners of Sunday’s championship matches will earn automatic bids into the 2025 NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball National Tournament, which will take place November 19-22, 2025, inside the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
