    NATIONAL ½ MARATHON CLASSIC

    Sunday, November 19, 2006

    9:00 am CDT

    Wichita, Kansas

     

    (10 minutes from Wichita Airport, and 30 minutes from El Dorado, Kansas)

     

    The 13.1 mile course is laid out on a USATF certified course on the bike trails of Wichita, Kansas.  The flat and fast course is the same course as the Wichita ½ marathon held in September each year.  The race starts and finishes in Central Riverside Park, northeast of the Cowtown.  (THIS IS A SLIGHT CHANGE THE LAST YEAR COURSES START/FINISH!!)

     

    The race is open to any eligible NJCAA athlete (female and male).  The entry fee is $55 per three-person team or $20 per individual.  Teams comprised of four or more runners will be charged $15 for each additional runner.

     

    Butler Community College will provide a pre-race meal on Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on the BCC campus, (student union). 

     

    The individual champion will receive a large plaque from the NJCAA.  Medals will be presented to the first through sixth place finishers in their respective divisions.  Each individual runner on the first and second place teams shall receive medals.  Trophies will be presented to the team champions and runners-up.

    RACE INFORMATION

     

    1.                                                                  Race begins at 9:00 a.m.  SHARP , Sunday, November 19, 2006

     

    2.                                                                  There will be two aid stations on the course that athletes see four times during the race.  Encourage your runners to drink fluids at every aid station.  Water will be provided.  You may provide you own fluid or nourishment if you like.  Although it may be cool at this time of the year in Kansas, be prepared to drink fluids anyway!!!

     

    3.                                                                  Runners are required to follow the course as instructed.

     

    4.                                                                  Coaches may follow the race/athletes on bikes after the athletes have passed mile 4, but shall not provide any illegal assistance.  This is to avoid congestion early in the race.  Drafting or pacing of athletes is illegal!!  We will disqualifying athletes if pacing or drafting occurs during the race from ANY source!!!

     

    5.                                                                  Medical assistance will be available on the course.  Two-way radios will be at all aid stations.

     

    6.                                                                  The temperature should be around 40-50 degrees at race time.

     

    7.                                                                  Competitor numbers should be worn on the front of uniforms and be visible at all times.   T-SHIRTS CAN NOT BE WORN OVER RACE NUMBERS!!!

     

    8.                                                                  Packet pick-up will be at 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the pre-race dinner on the Butler Community College campus, Saturday November 18, 2006.

     

    9.                                                                  All turns and mile markers will be marked.

     

    10.                                                              The Best Western Airport Inn will be the host hotel.  This is located near the Wichita International Airport.  Take the Dugan business area exit off of Kellogg road to arrive at the hotel. Contact number is 316-942-5600.  Ask for the NJCAA ½ Marathon Classic or Kent Mix.

     

    11.                                                              DON’T FORGET YOU MUST CERTIFY ATHLETES FOR THIS EVENT!!!!

     
     

    (For anyone who may be interested, the Wichita Turkey Trot 10 mile road race will be held at the same site as the ½ marathon classic on Saturday morning 9:30 a.m., November 18, 2006).

     
     
     

    DIRECTIONS TO COURSE FROM WICHITA AIRPORT:

              Airport road to US 54/Kellogg.  Go east to Seneca street (approx. 6 miles).  Course is 1 mile north on Seneca street.

     

    DIRECTIONS TO EL DORADO, (BCC CAMPUS):

              Take Airport Road to US 54/Kellogg.  Go east to I35 North to 254 East.  In El Dorado, turn right at the second stop light on Haverhill Road.  Campus is on West side of road, ½ mile downHaverhill road.
